Christmas with the girls

Wow, what a whirlwind.  Having a child on December 6th really makes Christmas seem like a second fiddle.  Between the family visits, the dirty diapers, and psyching ourselves up for another night of hopeful sleeping, there is Christmas.  We took Layla on the road to see my family Christmas Eve and Christmas night.  She did great even though she was surrounded by my family and I’m guessing she hasn’t quite figured out that she’s stuck with this family as her own too!  Cheryl’s parents are in town and we spent Christmas morning with them which is nice to be able to do.  They came all the way down here from the snowy tundra a Buffalo, Canada!  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Layla scored the motherload of clothes!  I guess I’m just gonna have to get used to that…what with having a girl and all.  They will want clothes while daddy will want toys, ‘cuz daddy likes playing with toys just as much as anybody.  I’m mature like that.  Grandma and Grandpa did give us a cool jungle playmat…thingie that has lights and giraffes, and toucans, and noises!  Cool, jungle noises.  It makes our living room sound like the movie “Platoon” without all the napalm or Tom Berenger.

In the midst of all this joy, my heart is a bit heavy in that Cheryl and I just didn’t make it to church and our advent devotional is sitting on the nightstand open to the third day.  With all that’s going on, Christmas was of the family and present type.  Don’t get me wrong that is wonderful!  Especially the family aspect, but I do miss the “Christ” part this year.  Cheryl and I talked about it and we have to adjust so that we can include the joy and trials of baby Layla while maintaining and even growing our time with God.  I hope that we may be able to do that…to prioritize our faith above even our little girl, our precious little girl.

Thanks guys and gals!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
